An Epitaph
As I think back over the last few years, I realize how important Mystery Science Theater 3000 has been to me. If I could ever show loyalty and compassion for a TV show, this one wins it. Yes, I'm a fan of Frasier and I loved watching Mad About You and Seinfeld, but no show gripped my heart and soul like MST3K. I missed very few episodes, most of those were right as the show kicked off on the Sci-Fi channel, and our cable company did not carry it. So, my family and I bought a satellite dish and I was able to watch my beloved program again.
MST3K helped evolve my personality into what I am today. Their style of humor clicked with me and brought out my own style. The simple robot puppets and a man in a jump suit captivated me as they ripped apart the trash that is bad cinema. I remember the first time I introduced MST3K to my friends. We laughed and laughed… MST3K was new and refreshing; probably the last truly original television show since The Muppets.
And now after 10 glorious
years, and a long list of terrible movies, the Peabody Award Winning series,
Mystery
Science Theater 3000, will be assumed into cancellation heaven.
Its cast and crew, who rank among the most talented and visionary personalities
to ever grace the airwaves, must move on with their lived and careers.
I think I speak for all of my fellow fans when I say that we love you guys
and gals and we wish you the best in whatever you may peruse. I thank
the executives at Comedy Central and the Sci-Fi channel who “got it”, and
of course thank you, Mystery Science Theater 3000, for making us
laugh and enjoy life. Perhaps in the not too distant future, someone
else might just “get it” and MST3K will rise like a phoenix on another
network. But I accept the fact that all things must pass, and thus
MST3K will live forever in our hearts and our funny bones. Good bye, MST3K,
and may there always be a clown in the sky for you.
